If you like using the unix foundation of OS X, you'll love Man Handler. The "man" pages are a great help when working in unix, but using them in a Terminal window is less than satisfactory.

Man Handler lets you open multiple man pages, returns the whole text of the page you're after, and the files are saveable so you don't have to look up frequently used commands over and over. Plus the OS X services (make sticky note, summarize, speak text, etc.) are all usable by Man Handler.

Written in AppleScript Studio with source code. An example of creating a document-based AS Studio application.
Release Notes: V 2.01u : Added Services menu bundle to open pages from selected text. The preferences panel is now resizable giving a better view of the MANPATH items.

What use it instead of man in the Terminal?

Now if it displayed the man pages in proportional type, which is much more readable, then it would really useful.

Even better (a future version) would be some semantically meaning coloring, something like syntax coloring.
