This script makes proper hyperlinks (live underlined words in ordinary text that open linked web pages in the recipient's default web browser when clicked) in Entourage messages. It guarantees clickable hyperlinks in HTML messages even when received in Outlook Windows. You can also set up hyperlinked signatures to use on a regular basis. New in v2.2.1: Does not error if moved to new disk in Panther, is fixed for news messages in Entourage 2004, and handles "=" in URLs correctly using Add-Remove.

I've also used this script successfully for years and puzzled why Micro$oft didn't include the native functionality to accomplish this.

Recently however I had it break on me when including very long URLs (for Google maps.) It would just hang Entourage in an infinite loop beginning at the statement:

repeat while length of thePara > 76

because thePara was never being shortened. Maybe I never had a URL longer than 76 chars before? I'm no Applescript expert but by commenting out the line:

-- set thePara to text item -1 of firstBit & thePara

the loop completes and it seems like the correct URL is still being generated.

Loved this script for years, However, I tried modifying the script to no avail. Anyone else get this work with Ent08 rev12.1.9?

Thank you!

First of all, it's a shame that something like this is not included in Entourage. Secondly, this script isn't perfect for everybody, but it's better than nothing. Good job by Paul for making something usable.

The first obvious issue is that there are likely a dozen or so versions of Entourage in use now, and some of the instructions given contains descriptions of menus that are not in my version (11.4).

The first change I made was to replace "Microsoft Entourage" in both scripts with "Microsoft Entourage.app". This is made a little easier by opening each script and doing a "find and replace", but be very careful, as the scripts are littered with instances of "Entourage", so do a find for "Microsoft Entourage" and a replace with "Microsoft Entourage.app", and this step should only take a minute or so.

The second step I needed to make in order for this script to run was to save the message. After it was saved I only needed to click on the script icon in the toolbar and then it finally worked.

I have upgraded to Entourage 2008 and reinstalled the Make Hyperlinks X script (has 2 parts actually) and did what a previous poster said to do-change all instances of "Microsoft Entourage" to "Microsoft Entourage.app" but when saving the scripts after the attempted changes & reopening the scripts it shows that they stayed as "Microsoft Entourage". Anybody know how to truly get hyperlinks into Entourage that are linked to just a few words (so those long links that are dozens of characters long don't have to be displayed). I also tried sending an email to the writer of the Make Typerlinks X script but no reply yet). Does anybody else know how to write this hyperlink generator script especially for Entourage 2008?
thanks.

It works great, except it distorts email addresses. Is there a fix for that? Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

I have Entourage 2004 v 11..4.0.

It works fine but only gave it three stars for my specific need. I just want to use a business signature with three hyperlinks

The problem is having to run the script and put in the three hyperlinks every time I send a message with that signature. I tried to run the script on the signature but it said it only works on messages. That means I have to run it every single time I send a message to use hyperlinks.

I'm afraid that won't work for me. I'll just leave them with the http nomenclature (this version won't even convert to a hyperlink using only the "www" address as I've read in another blog).

But kudos to the author for solving this unacceptable and purposeful miss by the Entourage authors!! If they think I will go back to PC over MAC because they keep forgetting to address this easy-to-solve and end-user-expected functionality they are missing quite a few flakes in their cereal.

It works fine w/ Entourage 2008 w/ all the updates (12.1.5). As the first poster said: open the scripts w/ script editor, and change all instances of "Microsoft Entourage" to "Microsoft Entourage.app" then compose e-mail with your hyperlinks, then open Applications>apple script>script editor. Then select File>open recent>Make Hyperlinks X. Very simple & works great.

Thank you for this. I am a very new Mac user and in my job have to send emails on behalf of clients which include quite a few hyperlinks. I can't find how to insert a hyperlink in 2008 - good on you Microsoft. But at least I am able to make my emails look more professional with tidy links. I did struggle with understanding the whole Scripts thing, but I think you have just opened my eyes and made me a convert - thanks again!

It works in 2008 if you do the following:

Open the scripts in Scripteditor and change "Microsoft Entourage" to Microsoft Entourage.app" That'll do the trick

Please add in the description that the script does not work for Entourage 2008 ver 11.3.3

Thank You.

Excellent. Works just like it says: unzip, drop it into the script folder, and open Entourage. You can't beat it for the price. Now, if I could pay a little for one feature, it would be the ability to rename the link and hide those ugly urls. But if wishes were horses, beggars would ride... Thanks for the great script.

Perfect Script for the use. I find it sad that Entourage 2008 doesn't have a hyperlink making ability even if it is for "protection". I had no problem works with Entourage 2008. I just added it to the Scripts folder and boom its like Magic.

Great job! Worked flawlessly for me. And I'm using Entourage 2004. Simple to install and easy to use. Thanks for making this. Maybe microsoft should pay you the big bucks to fix their crappy applications. I had one tiny issue where it didn't seem like to like subdomains if the display text was the same as the URL...

As far as I can tell, this script doesn't work in Entourage 11.3.6. I installed it 30 minutes ago, following the instructions, and can't see any difference in my Tools menu, or can find the option to actually insert a link into text in an Entourage message with HTML enabled.

I *hate* to rate things poorly, and would like to say that if this script works on earlier versions of Entourage, then it probably rocks! But it doesn't seem to work in 11.3.6, unless I've done something wrong.

Works great. Instructions are pretty straightforward, but could be clearer in regards to warnings about which version of Entourage you are using.

Cons: doesn't pick up on email addresses!!

p.s. Sorry, omitted to say, works just fine in 10.4.8.

Directions too complex? Are you kidding? This script is Gold! This script allows amazing latitude, as long as you've got a hyperlink attached ... and a child could use it. Shorten the name so it rises to the top of your Entourage scripts list - good to go. Thank you to the author!

(Besides, you know another way? There is none!)
