This script backups all positions of your desktop icons. Making copies of it allows to save multiple "sets". Unsaved icons get selected after a restore.

Worked well for me, and I expect it will save me some frustration. I keep a lot on my Desktop, and Tiger is still prone to losing the whole arrangement without notice. Tested doing a save, added and moved items, then restored, and got what I wanted. While I was notified that unrestored items were selected at the end they weren't actually, so maybe there's a small glitch there, but all I care about is that the saved ones are put where they were anyway. My thanks to the author.
